Jewelry FAQ
I’m sensitive to some metals, is your jewelry safe to wear?
At Gilded Violet Piercing, we only work with the highest quality jewelry from reputable, industry-leading manufacturers that comply with APP standards. We stock a vast selection of solid 14k and 18k gold, ASTM F136 implant grade titanium, ASTM F138 implant grade steel, and niobium—all bio-compatible materials that are very unlikely to cause a reaction!
Can I bring my own jewelry?
For your safety, we only work with jewelry that we can verify is from a reputable company that complies with APP standards. If you have jewelry you previously purchased from Gilded Violet, you may bring it to your appointment in a closed container to be reused. The jewelry will be visually inspected by the piercer to determine suitability. If appropriate, your jewelry will be reprocessed and sterilized before installation. Please note: any jewelry being brought in MUST have originally been yours—for your safety, we will NOT use or install jewelry that has been worn by anyone but you.
Will you pierce me with a ring?
Most piercings will struggle to heal properly with a ring. To avoid irritation and healing issues, most piercings will be started with a stud. Once the piercing is fully healed, we’ll happily switch to a ring!
The only piercings we offer that will always initially wear a ring are daith and septum piercings.
Aftercare FAQ
When can I downsize or change my jewelry?
At the time of the initial piercing, your piercer will give you a detailed aftercare card which will include a recommended period of time for you to downsize to ensure your piercing heals smoothly. Most piercings will require at least 3-4 months, and often longer, before you can start changing out jewelry. We are always more than happy to change and downsize jewelry for you to guarantee proper style and fit!
Can I go swimming with a fresh piercing?
Swimming with a fresh piercing is NOT recommended. Bodies of water—whether a pool, hot tub, or natural body of water—contain bacteria, microorganisms, and contaminants that can easily enter an open wound like a piercing. Treated pools and hot tubs use harsh chemicals like chlorine, which can irritate the piercing and complicate healing. Please wait until your piercing is fully healed before swimming, if you can. If you must swim, certain piercings may be covered with a waterproof covering like Tegaderm.
